Dermal fillers, explained without the hype

Where fillers help, how much is usually enough and why we prefer to build gradually.

Dermal fillers, explained without the hype

Dermal fillers are one of the most requested treatments we offer, and patients usually want to understand them properly before booking. There are several brands and types, but they work in broadly the same way. We inject them in the office and there is little to no downtime.

What fillers do

Fillers are injectable products that restore volume, support facial structure and soften lines. They work by adding support where tissue has thinned, filling depressions and rebalancing proportion.

Most fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, a substance your body already produces to hydrate and plump skin. Hyaluronic acid draws water in, which is why treated areas look fuller and better hydrated. Filler simply adds more of it where it is needed. Cheeks and lips are the most common areas.

  1. Softening lines and wrinkles, including lines around the mouth, chin and lower face.
  2. Restoring volume in areas that have thinned with age, such as the cheeks and temples.
  3. Contouring, for example defining the cheekbone or the jawline.

How long dermal fillers last

There is no single answer. Longevity depends on the product, the amount used, the area treated, and individual factors including age, skin thickness, sun exposure, smoking and metabolism.

In general terms, hyaluronic acid fillers last somewhere between six and twelve months, often longer. For most patients that means maintenance roughly once a year.

Some products last longer. Fillers built on calcium hydroxylapatite or poly-L-lactic acid can hold two years or more, though they often need more than one session to reach the planned result. Radiesse and Sculptra sit in this group. We describe them as scaffolding, because your own collagen develops within the framework the product creates. Less frequent maintenance suits some patients well.

Why patients choose filler

  1. Restoring volume and fullness. Fat and collagen decline with age, which is what causes flattening and sagging. Replacing support in the cheeks or lips reads as looking like yourself from a few years earlier.
  2. Softening wrinkles and fine lines, including smile lines and marionette lines.
  3. Enhancing contour along the cheekbone and jawline, in a way that does not wash off at the end of the night.
  4. A non-surgical option, without the recovery time or cost of surgery.
  5. Efficiency. Appointments are short and there is little to no downtime.
  6. Customisation. Every plan is built around your anatomy, goals and budget, not from a fixed menu.

Why fillers at Glacial Lakes Aesthetics

If you are in Spicer, Kandiyohi County or anywhere in the Willmar Lakes Area, here is what we bring to filler treatment.

  • Experienced injectors. Detailed knowledge of facial anatomy, a conservative approach, and a focus on unique placement for each face rather than a template.
  • A full service clinic. Injectables, skin, laser and wellness care under one roof, so you are not assembling a plan from several places.
  • VIP membership. A one time setup fee, then $159 each month held in your patient wallet to spend on services or products, with member pricing including $50 off each syringe of filler.
  • Cherry payment plans, if you would rather spread the cost across several months.

Book a consultation and we will assess your face, talk through product options and build a plan you are comfortable with.
